“43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Mathew 5:43-44
Thoughts of verse
Jewish masters by neighbor understand only those who were from their own country, nation, and religion, who were pleased to contemplate as their friends. Love your friends and hate your enemies is the law written by selfishness on the human heart. Its’ necessary effect is to divide mankind into clans maintaining perpetual feuds.
The Lord Jesus teaches us that we must do all the true goodness we can for all, especially their souls. We must pray for them. While many are done good for good, we must do good for evil; and this will speak of a nobler principle than most men act. Others greet their colleagues, and embrace those of their own party, and the way, and opinion, but we should not limit ourselves as much respect. It is the duty of Christians to desire, and they have as their object and press toward perfection in grace and holiness. And there we must study to conform to the example of our heavenly Father, 1 Pet 1:15,16. Surely more is to be expected from the followers of Christ than from others; I'm sure you'll find yourself more in them than in others. Let us ask God to allow us to show that we are his children.
Please keep in mind that If you’re going to pursue greatness, if you’re going to be a great businessperson, a great teacher, a great parent or a great leader, you have to understand that not everyone is going to cheer you on. It will be a perfect world if your family, friends and coworkers will celebrate you, but that’s not necessarily the case. Some people simply can’t handle your success. As you grow and increase, as God pours out His favor on you, someone will get jealous and start finding fault. Don’t be surprised if a relative try to belittle or discredit you. You can’t focus on making everyone around you happy or you’ll start changing and lose sight of what God has placed in your heart.
Remember, your destiny is too great to be distracted by people who are never going to affirm you. Don’t take it personally. It’s not about you. It’s their problem. Shake it off, run your race, and be great following Christ. Having greatness during criticism begins with forgiveness. Don’t hold a grudge. Bless those who curse you; pray for those who viciously use you. As you keep doing what is right, God will honor you. He’ll promote you, and you’ll be great amid criticism!
Father, I come to You today with an open and humble heart. I choose to forgive those who have criticized me. I choose to bless those who have hurt me. I choose to be great because You have equipped and empowered me to be great during criticism in Jesus’ name! Amen.
